Round 3 The Wall
The Wall contains sixteen words or phrases arranged in a 4×4 grid. These items can be grouped in four musically-connected sets of four – you need to find the groups and define what connects the items in each group. If I have created this wall correctly, there is only one solution that works, but if you find another way of solving the wall, kudos to you!
Harlem | Grand Canyon | Isfahan | Air |
London | Tribe | Dolly | Rigadoon |
Hess | Sacred Concert | Liver! | Jazz |
The Mooche | Gnawer | Arnum | Come Sunday |
SOLUTION
Group 1 is Gnawer, Harlem, Tribe, and Rigadoon – these are anagrams of composers (Wagner, Mahler, Ibert (or Berti) and Giordano). Group 2 is Sacred Concert, The Mooche, Isfahan, and Come Sunday – these are all works by Duke Ellington. Group 3 is Liver!, Arnum, Air, and Hess – these are all musicals with their first letter missing (Oliver!, Barnum, Hair and Chess). Group 4 is Dolly, Jazz, Grand Canyon, and London – these are all Suites (by Fauré, Shostakovich, Grofé and Coates respectively). Sorry if anyone thought Dolly (Lloyd) was a composer anagram, or that Harlem was a work by Duke Ellington, or that Rigadoon (Brigadoon) was a musical with its first letter missing!
