Round 1 (Connections) Question 3 of 6

Listen to as many of the music extracts on this page and work out the connection between them. You don’t have to identify every extract.

Clue 1 – Peter Schikele’s alter ego has a go at a madrigal.

Clue 2 – Mendelssohn’s famous motet, though probably more familiar to us sung in English.

Clue 3 – Lovely Vaughan Williams choral work.

Clue 4 – Popular instrumental extract from a Walton film score.

ANSWERSClip 1 is from PDQ Bach’s madrigal My Bonnie Lass she Smelleth (really by Peter Shickele, of course, sung by the ‘Amateur Musica Antiqua of the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople’). Clip 2 is from Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer (sung in German by Greta de Reyghere with Johan Huys [Organ] directed by Phillippe Herreweghe). Clip 3 is a complete performance of Vaughan Williams’ O Taste and See’ (The Cambridge Singers under John Rutter). Clip 4 is part of Walton’s film music for Henry V – the section entitled Touch her soft lips and part (the London Promenade Orchestra conducted by Eric Hammerstein). The connection is therefore Senses.
